Ryan Farr
Elite tutoring tailored to each student's needs

with Math, Science, English, and Standardized Tests
Over two decades of teaching experience

No matter what the difficult concept, Ryan excels at explaining it simply. He flexibly adapts to every student's needs — with more examples to better visualize, questions to keep them engaged, or coaching to keep them motivated. And mixing in creativity, humor, and empathy, Ryan connects with kids and makes sure that learning isn't a sleepy chore.

Each Tutoring Session
Weekly tutoring sessions with Ryan typically run for sixty or ninety minutes. They are one-on-one, to best connect with that student and focus the time only on their biggest issues. Those specifics are always adaptable — reviewing SAT grammar sentences, decoding a confusing lecture on double derivatives, or running a mock quiz on octopus anatomy.
Ultimately, each tutoring program is flexible to that student's schedule and most pressing tutoring needs. And while putting out the biggest fires of the week for academic students, the goal is still to work on long-term skills — taking better notes, getting more organized, avoiding careless math mistakes, becoming a more expressive writer, and finding joy in learning and intellectual curiosity.

About
Ryan graduated magna cum laude from Virginia Commonwealth University with a degree in English in 2008, and he's been tutoring full-time ever since. In that time he has maximized the potential of over two hundred students, to the tune of countless A grades, fives on AP exams, and at least a few perfect SAT/ACT scores. Along the way he has helped students boost their resumes to successfully land at Harvard, Duke, Stanford, Yale, Cornell, UVa, MIT, UPenn, Dartmouth, Brown, and more.

Before going out on his own, Ryan tutored at the prestigious Advantage Testing for eleven years in Westchester, NY. He also taught geology for four years at Nature Camp in Vesuvius, VA, where he won the Director's Award for Best Instructor.
Outside of the classroom setting, Ryan has biked across the country, won the Virginia Screenwriting Competition, and volunteered for a year with AmeriCorps NCCC. He also bakes a mean key lime pie, cares a little too much about the NY Mets, and is happily raising his first child Ellie with his wife Lindsay. Additionally, in his spare hours he manages a corporate social responsibility non-profit.

Currently based in his hometown of Charlottesville, VA, Ryan serves students throughout the country. After all his years tutoring, Ryan still loves finding out how to best click to each new student and how to get their sometimes stubborn light bulbs to switch on for good.
